LAB RATS
A group of giant, genetically modified rats have left the laboratory and are conducting mysterious experiments on amused and bemused passers-by….
|
A strange, roving, humorous performance troupe built and performed by your young people in your community, costumed and trained by Such As They Are. The first element in the two day workshop, is the construction of individual rat heads using patterns, cardboard, paint, decorations and imagination. |
In between phases in the construction, the participants practice simple, fun exercises designed to impart the basics tools for working as a group in a public space such as focus, cohesion, safety, clowning and games. Creating together, the participants devise their own games, images and situations. |
|
|
Finally the Rats, chaperoned by Such As They Are, are let loose on the public.
This could be any suitable space such as a school playground or the street but we imagine it mostly coinciding with events and festivals. Safely costumed and working in a group, the participants experience little pressure or nerves. It's fun! For the public, the Rats make an intriguing and amusing spectacle where they can choose their own level of interaction. |
Benefits
- The participants have the safety of being in a group and behind a mask to increase their confidence
- They cohere as a group as they learn to perform as a group
- They will build and personalise their own costume so taking ownership of the character
- Within the concept the participants will devise their own games to play on the public, taking ownership of the performance
- There is scope for the group to continue to build their performance and perform again
- Also for new people to join, where skills will need to be passed on within the group
- They will have fun and so will the audience when they go out to perform!
